Legado de Acero

This set represents a highlight of my career. My customer was a gentleman with five children. He gave me one word to describe each of their personalities, and I designed one knife to match each individual personality. They had to reflect his children's individuality, but also to be recognizable as members of the same family. I chose the title "Legao de Acero," which translates from Spanish to "Legacy of Steel" because my customer envisioned this set as part of the legacy he will one day leave his children.

The blades all began as one billet of damascus steel, and then I separated it into five pieces and patterned each one individually to suit the design of the given knife and personality. The handles are all exhibition grad Arizona Ironwood Burl, with nickel silver and micarta fittings.

I loved the challenge of this commission, and would LOVE to do more work with a philosophical component like this.

Note: from left to right, they are: Stubborn, Which, Dreamer, Leader, Joy

High Carbon Steel

Nearly all of my knives are made using high carbon steel. It is superior to stainless steel in almost every way, but you need to know how to take care of it. It is important to understand what you’re buying.

Want something custom?

If you would like to discuss a custom order, send me a message here to start the conversation. Your email will come to me, and I will respond personally. Tell me as much as you can about what you envision so that I can begin to frame the project in my mind, and we’ll go from there.

Pricing on custom work ranges from $100 on up to $10,000 and more, depending primarily on the complexity of the piece.

Lead time (i.e. when the knife might be complete) depends on what I have on my books at the moment, but in most cases 6 months is a safe guess.
