Engineered for the Perfect Slice: The “Baker” Bread Knife

When craftsmanship meets purpose, the result is something far greater than just a tool—it becomes part of someone’s daily ritual. The “Baker” 8.5” Bread Knife is a perfect example of that philosophy in action.

Recently completed for a dedicated collector and a dear client of mine, this custom bread knife was designed to elevate the experience of baking from simple routine to something truly personal.

Built for Performance and Longevity

The “Baker” features a carefully selected combination of premium materials chosen for both durability and aesthetics:

  • AEB-L Stainless Steel – Composed of fine grain structure, excellent serration edge stability, and corrosion resistance
  • Micarta Handle Elements – Delivering strength, grip, and long-term reliability
  • Stabilized Curly Maple – Showcasing natural beauty with unique grain patterns, ensuring every piece is one of a kind

Every material serves a purpose—balancing performance, control, and visual identity.

"Baker" Bread Knife

From Concept to Completion

This knife came together over the course of about a week of focused craftsmanship. From shaping to finishing, each phase was executed with precision and intent.

Completed in mid-March, the timeline reflects efficiency built through experience—not shortcuts. Every detail was considered, refined, and brought together with purpose.

Inspired by a Love for Baking

The story behind the “Baker” is where this piece truly stands apart.

The knife was commissioned by a long-time collector who recently developed a passion for baking. She wanted something that matched that energy—something functional, personal, and crafted with care.

But this wasn’t a new relationship.

This collector first discovered my work at the League of NH Craftsmen’s Annual Fair fourteen years ago—my very first year exhibiting. Since then, she has returned year after year, purchasing at least one piece annually.

That kind of loyalty isn’t transactional—it has evolved into a connection built on trust, consistency, and shared appreciation for craftsmanship.

Creating the “Baker” wasn’t just about meeting a need. It was about continuing a story that’s been developing for over a decade.

The Craft Behind the Blade

There’s a quiet satisfaction in seeing a piece come together exactly as intended.

The process itself may not always be dramatic, but it’s steady, focused, and deeply rewarding. Knowing this knife would be used regularly—not stored away—added meaning to every step.

It was built to perform, to last, and to be part of everyday life.

Featured in a Digital Campaign

The “Baker” extends beyond the workshop into the digital space as well.

It was featured in a video reel produced by URPERSONA as part of Jonas Blade’s organic TikTok Marketing campaign—bringing the craftsmanship to a wider audience and translating the build process into a modern, engaging format.

More Than a Bread Knife

At its core, the “Baker” represents more than materials and measurements. It reflects:

  • A collector’s evolving passion
  • A fourteen-year relationship built on trust
  • And a maker’s commitment to creating tools with purpose

This isn’t just a bread knife—it’s a continuation of a story, forged over time.
