Some pieces mark a turning point in a maker’s career. Others become a reflection of years spent refining technique, artistic vision, and craftsmanship. For me, “Resolution” is one of those rare creations.
After a long journey from concept to completion, this custom Damascus sword is now leaving the shop and heading to its new owner. Before it does, I shared one final look at the piece — a sword that represents both technical mastery and artistic evolution.
A Custom Damascus Sword Years in the Making
“Resolution” was not built quickly. Every detail of the sword reflects patience, experimentation, and precision craftsmanship developed over years of bladesmithing.
At roughly 36 inches overall, the sword features a blade measuring just over 29 inches. The proportions create a commanding presence while maintaining balance and elegance in hand.
What immediately separates “Resolution” from an ordinary custom sword is the extraordinary complexity within the Damascus steel itself. The blade incorporates:
- Twist edge construction
- Compound feather patterning
- Gordian twist spine
- Multiple fullers
- Extensive hand file work
- Technical S-ground geometry with a convex edge
The result is a blade that feels alive with movement. The layered steel patterns shift and evolve depending on the angle of light, giving the sword a constantly changing visual depth.
The Art of Damascus Pattern Welding
For collectors of handmade swords and high-end Damascus blades, pattern welding is often where craftsmanship reveals itself most clearly.
The compound feather body transitions into a Gordian twist spine with a precise contour break where the patterns meet. That level of control is exceptionally difficult to execute cleanly, especially on a large-format blade.
The multiple fullers further enhance both the aesthetics and handling characteristics of the sword while emphasizing the flowing lines throughout the piece.
Rather than relying on excessive ornamentation, “Resolution” balances technical complexity with restraint — allowing the steel itself to become the centerpiece.
Hawaiian Koa and Gold Details
The handle continues the sword’s blend of luxury materials and functional craftsmanship.
A stabilized curly Hawaiian Koa handle provides rich natural figure and warmth against the intricate steelwork. Embedded throughout the handle are 21 gold inlay dots that subtly catch light without overpowering the composition.
The fittings elevate the piece even further:
- 1800-layer fine nickel Damascus bolster
- Bronze bolster plated in 24-karat gold
- Full takedown construction for precision assembly and maintenance
These elements create a sword that feels equally at home as a functional blade, heirloom artwork, or centerpiece in a high-end collection.
A Milestone Piece for Jonas Blade
In my own words, “Resolution” is a milestone piece as I continually push the boundaries of custom forged blades, Damascus pattern development, and sculptural metalwork.
Milestone pieces are rare because they represent more than technical success. They capture a specific moment in a craftsman’s evolution — where accumulated experience, artistic confidence, and execution finally align.
For collectors, those are often the pieces that become historically important within a maker’s body of work.
Why Handmade Custom Swords Continue to Matter
In a world dominated by mass production, handmade custom swords occupy a completely different category. They represent hundreds of hours of direct human craftsmanship, design decisions, and technical problem-solving that cannot be replicated by automated manufacturing.
Collectors seek out pieces like “Resolution” because they combine:
- Functional performance
- Artistic metalwork
- Rare materials
- One-of-one craftsmanship
- Long-term collectible value
Every forged detail carries the signature of the maker’s hand.

As “Resolution” leaves the workshop and heads to its new owner, it stands as a powerful example of what modern bladesmithing can achieve when artistry and technical skill meet at the highest level.
Some blades are made to be used. Others are made to be remembered.
“Resolution” was clearly made for both.
